Indications

• Decongestant

• Mydriatic

• Sometimes used as a vasopressor to increase the blood pressure in unstable patients with hypotension

  • More common in anesthesia or critical-care practices

  • phenylephrine is especially useful in counteracting the hypotensive effect of epidural and subarachnoid anesthetics
